This follow-on from the South African part of
Africa project is the most technically
advanced system system that we (or, so far as we know, anyone else) has
attempted. The models here are multi-period micro-, macro- and integrated
micro/macro simulations producing forecasts for income distributions,
employment, aggregate output and much more for up to twelve years. Getting these
models to run sufficiently fast to be useful in a web environment – getting them
to run at all, indeed – has been a huge technical challenge. Designing an
interface capable of making sense of the models' huge number of inputs and
outputs was similarly challenging.
